MISSION: Read about the Council of Foreign Relations.

SOURCE: Anonymous

DETAILS: I read a few different articles, watched a youtube video, then finally CFR’s own video. There are a lot of conspiracy theories on what the Council on Foreign Relations does and the influence that it has had on American politics. The list of members is an impressive one, however the video I watched hardly proved any malicious intent. It is an interesting organization, however, and it’s secrecy probably encourages such theories to thrive.

MISSION: Red Star’s wings were ranked #3 in New York. Go try some.

SOURCE: Dani

DETAILS: Red Star was packed for the Super Bowl, but I went early enough to put my to-go order in. I got a couple orders to share with friends and they were amazing. I’ll definitely head back there again.

MISSION: Talk to a stranger about religion.

SOURCE: Marie

DETAILS: I chatted with a girl at a bar for a few minutes. She was raised Catholic, but isn’t particularly religious. We talked about God, the afterlife and how religion has positively and negatively effected history. Nice conversation.

SOURCE: Zack

DETAILS: It’s surprisingly easy to find information on flammable and explosive household items and what you can do with them. I’m probably on a government list right now for my Google searches.

MISSION: Watch The Robber.

SOURCE: Wendel

DETAILS: This German/Austrian film is based on the true story of a marathon runner, who robs banks in his spare time to feed his need for an adrenaline rush. It’s a sad, but really interesting story. From what I read Hollywood is remaking it with Andrew Garfield as the lead role.

MISSION: Look up GFAJ-1.

SOURCE: Elliot

DETAILS: In December of 2010 Felisa Wolfe-Simon discovered a bacteria in Mono Lake, California that when starved of Phosphorus, can incorporate Arsenic into it’s basic DNA and continue growing. Until this discovery, the six elements that life depended on were Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Sulfur. So if Wolfe-Simon’s conclusions are correct, scientists would have to re-examine how they identify life on this (and potentially any other) planet. The name of the bacteria is GFAJ-1, and while there are some skeptics, research is continuing on this potentially groundbreaking discovery.

SOURCE: Anna

DETAILS: I met an old lady with a Polish accent walking her dog in Greenpoint, Bk. I said hello with a smile and asked her the above question. She thought for a moment, then answered, “9/11. This country… the entire world… everything changed that day.”

MISSION: Tell a stranger about one of your favorite Missions.

SOURCE: Don

DETAILS: On July 2nd, 2010 I completed a Mission given to me by Caitlin C. She had me swim across Cayuga Lake. The distance was an estimated 1.3 miles and I completed it in an hour and a half with Paul S. (source of 12/21/10’s Mission) canoeing beside me/drinking Labatt Blue Light. Cold and exhausted afterwards, I took a 1/2 hour shower, ate 1/2 a pizza and fell asleep for two hours with a rug as a blanket. This was always one of my favorites, and the picture that Paul took of me is the cover to one of the Daily Mission Project journals.

I was bartending and chatting with a few customers. I met a guy named Elliot, told him about Daily Mission Project and about 7/2/10’s Mission. He liked the idea and is thinking about submitting a Mission of his own.
