SEPTEMBER 8th
MISSION: Ask three random people what they wanted to be when they grew up… and ask them what they are doing now.
SOURCE: Nate
ANALYSIS: Julia F. and I caught up on Avenue A and completed this task. The first guy, a bartender, answered, “a policeman or soldier.” The second, who was studying French always wanted to be a Ninja Turtle, specifically Donatello. The third, a cop, wanted to be a professional football player when he was young.

MISSION: Dip your feet in the East River (and make sure to wash them afterwards).
SOURCE: Anonymous
ANALYSIS: I headed to the end of Huron St. in Greenpoint (See March 26th’s Mission) climbed out on the rocks and dipped my feet in the water. I came home and washed them in the sink before watching the rest of Nadal’s match and heading to bed.

SEPTEMBER 6th
MISSION: If you could create a Utopian society, describe how would it look. Think of one aspect of society you would change to achieve it.
SOURCE: Jonah
ANALYSIS: My Utopia would involve better education and ethics for everyone. Self-awareness, creativity, exploration and responsibility would be valued more. Teachers would be making six figures and 24 hour news networks may not be necessary. We would all listen to each other a little better.
The one aspect of society that I would change would be this: if any nation was spending more on military than it was on education, all trades, loans, etc. would immediately be ceased. In my opinion, any group of people that values today’s destruction over tomorrow’s production needs to be confronted.

MISSION: Go make friends at a bar that you’ve never been to.
SOURCE: Bradford
ANALYSIS: I went to Van Gogh’s Radio Lounge, a bar on Franklin St. that I had walked by, but never entered. I chatted with the bartender, Danny, about the bar and the music that he had playing. He offered me some food, but I declined. I sipped on a beer, then made my way home.
STATUS: Complete
SEPTEMBER 4th
MISSION: Go to Grand Concourse in the Bronx.
SOURCE: Suzanne
ANALYSIS: I drove up to Grand Concourse, parked, took a walk and got some food. It’s a nice little stretch, even though the Yankee Stadium traffic made getting around a little difficult.
STATUS: Complete
SEPTEMBER 3rd
MISSION: Go see some jazz in Bedford.
SOURCE: Anonymous
ANALYSIS: This Mission was kind of tricky as there actually aren’t too many jazz spots there. I did some research, then headed to Solomon’s on Stuyvesant Ave and Sista’s Place on Nostrand. Both were closed and don’t exist anymore. I’ll have to find another spot and head back soon.
STATUS: Incomplete
SEPTEMBER 2nd
MISSION: Go to one of the Polish bars/restaurants on Greenpoint Ave. in Brooklyn.
SOURCE: Anonymous
ANALYSIS: I was specifically told that there were polish bars/restaurants east of Manhattan Ave, but there was only one. I walked up to enter, but the girl outside told me that they were closed. At first, I thought that she was just moving me along, as I am obviously not Polish, but when I walked back a few minutes later they were definitely locked up. The place was called Karczma. I’ll try again as soon as possible.
STATUS: Incomplete
SEPTEMBER 3rd
ANALYSIS: The people at Karczma are really nice. I took a seat at the bar and ordered a Zywiec, a popular Polish beer. I chatted with the bartender finished my beer then took off. I’d like to go back and try the food at some point.

MISSION: Gather all Ithacans in NYC together for happy hour at a bar that serves Ithaca Beer.
SOURCE: Jessica E.
ANALYSIS: About 15 or so I-towners rolled through Peculiar Pub between 6:00 and 10:00 PM. We told old stories and caught up with each other as well. It was nice to see these familiar faces outside of Ithaca, NY.

MISSION: Observe human behavior at the wing competition at Habitat (Brooklyn bar/restaurant).
SOURCE: Anonymous
ANALYSIS: I arrived just in time to see the champion finishing up. He gathered himself and his trophy and went on his way. I ordered six wings ($0.25 each) and a beer and people watched for a while. It was loud and festive - everyone seemed to be having a good night.

AUGUST 30th
MISSION: Go see some good live music in New York.
SOURCE: Anonymous
ANALYSIS: A few of my friends were asked to fill in an 8:00 PM slot at Rockwood, so I went to see Patrick Thomas (January 19th), Matt Bogdanow (January 9th) and Matt Aronoff play. They sounded great and even invited me on stage to talk about Daily Mission Project.
STATUS: Complete
AUGUST 29th
MISSION: Go on a rooftop in the lower east side (the view of midtown is incredible).
SOURCE: Anonymous
ANALYSIS: The first few attempts of finding a rooftop were unsuccessful. Jessica B., however, got in touch with her friend, Mike, who let us onto his rooftop on Rivington St. We didn’t get a great vew of midtown, but it was still a nice night to be outside.
STATUS: Complete
AUGUST 28th
MISSION: Talk your way into a bar with a cover charge without paying.
SOURCE: Kelsey A.
ANALYSIS: I was hanging out with the Carriage House staff in Ithaca, NY and walked over to the Chapter House, a local bar. I told the bouncer that I needed to get a message to Jessica, a waitress at the Carriage House who was getting a drink there. He hesitantly let me in and I hung out there for a few minutes before heading back across the street. Turns out, Jessica had unsuccessfully tried to convince the bouncer to let her in for free, but for some reason he let me go in to find her.
STATUS: Complete
AUGUST 27th
MISSION: All clothing must be placed in the backwards position. Trouser articles should preferably have back pockets. Shirt should have a collar. Hat, sideways. Different colored socks and different shoes per foot. Sharpie marker tattoos highly encouraged. When complete, go for a stroll of the Ithaca Commons and complete an entire loop.
SOURCE: David B.
ANALYSIS: I only had one pair of shoes and didn’t have a sharpie, however all my clothing was worn backwards on the Commons in Ithaca. My hoodie is covering up my collar (it was very cold). I took a lap around the commons with Laura D. (June 9th) and got strange looks from most who passed us.
STATUS: Complete
AUGUST 26th
MISSION: Be a good person.

I picked her up at her apartment on 7th St. brought her to the Ikea in Red Hook, spent four hours there shopping with her, then drove back to Manhattan and carried everything up three flights of stairs. She made me some dinner afterwards.

MISSION: Go to the west side and walk out on Pier 40. The view of the city from there is incredible.
SOURCE: Sarah
ANALYSIS: I have been to Pier 40 hundreds of times to play soccer, but never walked behind the soccer fields to see the view from there. Sarah was right - incredible view of the west side, lower Manhattan, and New Jersey.
